Stargate Atlantis is a spin-off television series from Stargate SG-1 that follows the seven season episode "Lost City" of Stargate SG-1 , where SG-1 found an outpost made by the race known as the Ancients in Antarctica. After the events of Stargate SG-1 season eight premiere "New Order", the Stargate Command sends an international team to investigate the outpost. Soon, Dr. Jackson discovers the location of the greatest city created by the Ancients, Atlantis. The premiere was on July 16, 2004 with the episode "Rising" that guest starred Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks.

This is a wonderful spin-off! I very much enjoy the characters (especially MacKay :D) the funniest character in the Stargate franchise ... of course after Jack O`Neill :D Right?), the bad guys ( especially The Wraith) and that we have again the chance to see the Replicators (the Ancient made Replicators or the Asurans). The plot,location, and the progress of the story are excellent .If it keeps like this the show can last like SG-1 for 10 seasons.
